Wish Tree Additions

Libraries are wonderful! People who use libraries are wonderful! If I am being a bit over-zealous, let me explain. Every year we put up a display of books/DVDs/CDs that we would love to own, but don’t have the funds. Most of our money comes from donations, not taxes. People who visit this library can purchase one of these items and donate it back to the library. They give us a gift; they get a donation plate in the front of the book/DVD/CD. Our patrons have donated many items to us this season. Below are just a sample.

Cat Nap is adorable for preschoolers and their parents. Each sturdy board page shows an older cat wanting to nap and a kitten wanting to play hide-n-seek. Hidden on most pages is a tiny gray mouse playing too. Children have to find all three characters before the page is turned.

Cynthia Rylant’s new book Henny, Penny, Lenny, Denny and Mike shows a happy group of fish in a fish tank, until a new arrival changes things.

Are We There Yet? is a very odd picture book for older children. One reads it sideways, upside down and yet it all makes sense. Long trips can be very boring to people, but if we find a way to occupy our minds, time passes faster. Naps in cars help too.

The Magic Tree House Books 1-8 have been transferred onto CDs to help those endless hours in the car pass more quickly for children. Jack and Annie travel back in time and to other places in Osborne’s magical series.

Antoinette is a poodle puppy in a family of bulldogs. Each of her bulldog brothers is great at something. She discovers her strength is tenacity and tracking when her poodle friend wanders off after a butterfly.

Imagine That! How Dr. Seuss Wrote Cat in the Hat tells the story of Geisel being challenged to write a book for beginning readers. With the list of first graders’ words in hand, he invented that mischievous and magical cat, using about 250 sight and rhyming words.

The Legendary Miss Lena Horne was written by respected High Point author Carole Boston Weatherford. This is a short biography of the beautiful singer and performer.

Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World highlights notable scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians from the ancient to the modern world.

We still have a variety of new items if you want to make a gift to your favorite library. The tree will remain up until the end of January for your convenience.
