Library Offers Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering can be one of the most rewarding activities of your life. Volunteering your time and talent is a great way to express your passion. Are you passionate about reading, learning, helping others, or nonprofits?  If so, we’re the place for you.
The library has so many ways for you to give back to your community and have fun, too.  The following list explains how you could help the library.
Tax Service Greeters (Jan. – April):  Volunteers help check in and greet people coming to get their taxes prepared.  Helpers need great people skills, but the job is not fast paced (you could bring a book). Schedule varies, please contact the library for times and days
volunteers are needed.
Story Time Readers (Sept. – May): Volunteers select and read story books to children ages 1-6. Under the supervision of Carol Reed, our Children’s Librarian, this is a great opportunity for someone who is creative and engaging. Depending on the
schedule, it could be only a once a month commitment.
Book Reviewers (Monthly):
This is a new volunteer need. If you love books and have a way with words, you can write a book review for the library to print in the newsletter, local newspaper and/or post in the library. Great for someone
with less time to give and can be done from home.

Book Club Facilitator (Monthly):
The library is considering starting a third book club group. Are you
someone with strong leadership skills who loves good books?  Would you want to work with the library to run a discussion group?
Summer Reading Program Volunteers (June-August):
Volunteers help with activities and crafts based around the summer theme. This is great for anyone artistic who loves kids. Contact either Carol Reed or Audrey Kendrick closer to the summer if you are interested.
Shelf Readers (Weekly):
The library stacks constantly need attention. If you have an eye for
detail and like working quietly, this might be the job for you. You can set your own schedule.

Board or Committee Member  (One Year Term):  Do you see the big picture and have big ideas?  If so, we would love to have you join our Friends of the Library Board.
Special Events (One time commitment): Help plan these events or just help the day of!
Fish Fry (May); Luminaries and
Holiday Open House (Dec.); History Series (Oct.); Alumni BBQ (Sept.); Book Sales and Basket Fundraiser (year round).

For youth volunteers, you must be over 12 years old and have the consent of a parent/guardian. Court ordered community service volunteers, please see the Library Manager for details.

Donations Always Appreciated…

If you aren't able to give your time but still want a way to support the library, consider donating needed items. Costs for things like card stock and pens can add up. Anything on the list below is a library supply you could donate:

Colored paper (both copy weight and card stock)
Notepads, scotch tape
Pens, pencils, scissors
Construction paper
White card stock
Styrofoam cups, napkins
Small folding tables
Gift certificates to

Staples or Office Depot

CDRWs- CDs that can be used again and over written to preserve documents and pictures that are used for the library and its various functions.

DVDR s- disks that can be used to save movies and  large programs.

Flat Screen Monitors - We hope to set up a children’s computer area. We have two old monitors but prefer the flat screens as they take up less space.

Kids’ software for the children’s computer area.

USB Mice and
USB Keyboards – the newly purchased computers all have USB mice and keyboards. We would like to have spares in case they fail.

Power strips – We need to replace our old power strips with new ones that have battery backup protection against power surges or failures.
