Our Policies

New Library Cards

  • Free to all Guilford County residents, for out-of-county patrons there is a yearly $25 fee.
  • Photo ID showing current address
  • Parents must be present for minors to get a library card

Patron Privileges

  • Twenty items may be borrowed per library account.
  • DVD checkouts are limited to 4 per account.
  • Patrons can not checkout library materials with outstanding overdue items or fees.

Loan Periods

  • All Books: 3 weeks
  • Audio books: 3 weeks
  • Videos, DVDs and Magazines: 1 week
  • *Due date is stamped in item

Renewals

  • An item may be renewed twice unless it is requested by another patron.

Returns

  • Books may be returned to the desk or in the outside drop box.
  • Videos, DVDs & audio books should be returned inside if possible

Patron’s Responsibility

  • Patrons are responsible for borrowed materials.
  • Parents are responsible for materials borrowed by minors.
  • Patrons are responsible for updating personal information such as addresses and phone numbers.

Fines

  • Overdue: 10 cents a day for books, 25 cents a day for movies.
  • Lost or destroyed items: Replacement cost of each item.
  • Patrons with outstanding fines more than $3 may not check out any items, including public computers.

Electronic Services

  • Library card required to use public computers
  • Internet Access
  • Microsoft programs—Word—Works—Excel--Powerpoint
  • First come, first serve—one hour limit if others are waiting
  • Printed pages: 15 cents for every page Copies: 15 cents for every page Fax: $1.00 per page
